In a CNETAsia interview, D-Link CEO, Ken Kao, says that neither the PC, or the consumer electronics device, will be at the center of the digital home of the future.

Kao believes that the core device will be a, yet-to-be-developed, networking device that will be a "firewall, router, switch, wireless access point, and can handle not only data but also voice, images and videos".

D-Link have an obvious incentive to promote this view. The D-Link DSM-320 Home Media Player is based on this concept. However, Kao does not think that this 'media center in a box' will be with us for a few years. However, D-Link are planning several product launches at CES 2005 in January which will move the company towards this goal.
