Gives entertainment enthusiasts "in-air" control in the living room

Gyration, Inc., a leading provider of computer input solutions for entertainment and business, today announced its first product specifically designed for remote control of PCs running on the Microsoft® Windows XP Media Center Edition. Gyration's Media Center Remote eliminates over 90% of the buttons found on the traditional infrared remote bundled with Media Center PCs, and it affords the added benefit of precise cursor control from any position. The Media Center Remote Control is being shown at CeBit America (Booth#3251) and at Digital Experience. It will be available in major retail outlets throughout the United Sates in September 2003.

Although Media Center PCs come equipped with an InfraRed remote control that allows users to change TV channels from afar, Gyration's Media Center Remote puts complete control in the hands of the end user, no matter whether they are sitting on the couch, exercising or just lying in bed. It communicates with the PC using RF (radio frequency) technology so there is no line-of-sight limitations found with traditional infrared products. In fact, users are free to locate their Media Center PC just about anywhere since there is no longer any need to see it.

"The Media Center PC is a powerful multimedia platform with an advanced point-and-click distance user interface. With Gyration's Media Center Remote, users can fully exploit this environment using point-and-click control, all the while maintaining eye contact with the visual medium," said Thomas Quinn, CEO and Cofounder of Gyration. "This is a vast improvement over traditional infrared remote controls which require the user to look away from the TV, locate a button among many and point the remote at the TV to click. This issue is compounded when the room is dark while viewing a movie, making it all but impossible for the user to even see the buttons. With Gyration's Media Center Remote, simply wave your hand and click."

Bundled with Gyration's Media Center Remote is a suite of software (GyroTools Media Center Edition) to enhance remote control through simple mouse clicks, swipes of your hand, or hot spots on the screen. For example, if you are having difficulty reading a web page, just click and the screen zooms. Or, to adjust the volume, simply motion your hand upward to raise the volume, motion down to lower it. GyroTools/MCE has over 80 such tools to enhance user control and the entertainment experience.

The Media Center Remote, with a suggested retail price of $149.95, will be available at major electronics retailers throughout the United States including Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA and Fry's Electronics in September 2003. The product will also be available direct to the consumer at GyrationDirect.com. A product suite featuring the Media Center Remote and a compact wireless keyboard will be available for a suggested retail price of $179.95.
