Thanks to US Government regulations, Sony have filed an early version of the PSP manual with the the FCC's Office of Engineering and Technology, giving us a sneak preview of the media center aspects of the North American release.

The manual (which we must stress is probably a very early version) confirms that UMD media will be region-coded with NA being region 1 and Japan being region 2 (no word as to Europe). We're hoping that this just applies to film media and not to games, as Sony have always suggested that they are happy for a game import market to thrive.

Conversion of video into a PSP format is still done thorugh Sony Image Converter 2, but strangely the software does not seem to be included with the package.

For the record, the NA release would seem to contain:

* The PSP
* Battery Pack
* Headphones with Remote Control
* Memory Stick Duo (32MB)
* Wrist Strap
* Pouch
* Cloth
* AC Adaptor
* AC power cord
* UMD software
* Printed materials

This is similar to the Japanese Value Pack.

The directory system for storing music and video would seem to be only one folder deep which is not very flexible. Sony should definitely look at fixing that one.

If you want to plough through the manual yourself you can see it on the FCC website at:
