In a ITMedia interview, Nintendo PR head, Ken Toyoda, denied (but not very strongly) that the Play-Yan multimedia adapter for the DS and Gameboy Advance was a response to the PSP's portable media center ambitions.

Toyoda even went so far as to say that the Play-Yan had been developed with the Gameboy in mind and that fact that it also worked with the DS was a coincidence.

At the moment you can only get the Play-Yan online which the Nintendo man said was because of the degree of technical knowledge required to use it.

"I think it's appropriate to only sell it on the Internet for now because it requires more knowledge beforehand than just going to an existing game shop. As the scale increases though, we're thinking about our next steps."
