MEDIA CENTER PC NEWSFebruary 17th 2005 UMD Movie Prices Revealed - 'Daggers' Joins List
The four films that were confirmed last week - 'XXX,' 'Hellboy,' 'Resident Evil 2' and 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico' - will all cost $19.99. If you think that's steep for a version of a film that you can only watch on a 'relatively' tiny PSP screen then you'd better sit down as Sony has announced that martial arts extravaganza 'House of Flying Daggers' will be release simultaneously on DVD and UMD at the price of $28.95. This doesn't strike us a good value, but then the film itself is excellent. If you haven't seen it the movie is set in 859AD, and the Tang Dynasty, one of the most enlightened empires in Chinese history at its height, is in decline. The Emperor is incompetent and the government is corrupt. Unrest is spreading throughout the land, and many rebel armies are forming in protest. The largest, and most prestigious, is an underground alliance called the House of Flying Daggers. Cue much spectacular martial arts action in the style of 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'.... Sony is desperate to show off the PSP as more than just a gaming machine, but at these prices they are unlikely to shift many UMD movies and will drive people down the 'piracy' route.
