MEDIA CENTER PC NEWSApril 7th 2005 Mac Mini Now Available At Best Buy
Apple's rigid pricing policy (discounting is a no no) has not always endeared it to the big retailers, but Best Buy becomes one of the first big electronics store to carry the Mac Mini. It will sell the product in 671 US stores. Best Buy has been shifting iPods for some time and did dabble with selling Macs for a period last year. This move into selling the Mac Mini is seen as another example of Apple trying to exploit the 'halo' effect. People buy an iPod and then soon after buy a Mac to take full advantage of it. Meanwhile, the open souce CenterStage Mac Media Center project that is generating a lot of attention, hasn't yet reached it 0.2 alpha version as was expected. The developers want more time to integrate the rather smart looking GUI that is mocked up on the website. We'll be taking a closer look at CenterStage in the future. |
