Google and Yahoo! have been trading blows with their video search options over the last few months, but Yahoo! have won the race to get out of beta, quietly launching the service on Wednesday.

Yahoo! Video Search indexes web-based video in the same way that it indexes web pages and images and the search works in the same way. You enter a keyword and the results are returned in an interface familiar to anyone who has used an image search engine before.

We gave it a go, but as is typical with the internet, found that even the most innocuous term brought up more than its fair share of porn. Still, Yahoo! provide a filter to weed out unacceptable content.

The advanced search allows you to specify file type, useful if you don't have all the media players, and domain.

As well as the usual random mix of interesting ephemera, Yahoo! Video Search carries content from CBS News, Reuters, Country Music Television, MTV.com, VH1.com and IFILM.com.
