MEDIA CENTER PC NEWSJune 23rd 2005 PC Manufacturers Snub 'Euro-Windows'
Apparently thousands of copies are sitting in warehouses, with manufacturers unwilling to sell machines with the cut-down version pre-installed and with consumers not prepared to by an operating system without a piece of software that they would only have to download later anyway. MediaCenterPCWorld.com is all for competition, but we've always felt that the Media Player was an integral part of the OS, not just a bundled addition. XP is sold to the masses as a simple to use product. The man in the street wants to know that he or she can play mp3 and videos without having to install any extra software and the Brussels ruling ignores that fact. Forcing Microsoft to drop anti-competitive practices is one thing. Forcing them to waste millions manufacturing a product that noone wants is pure euro-folly. |
