EyeTV software enables users to watch, record, edit and archive television on their Macs. It also allows "timeshifting", that is, the user can pause, fast-forward, and/rewind live television signals. Until now, EyeTV software was only available bundled with Elgato hardware. Soon Mac users will be able to enjoy one of the most useful pieces of software available for the Mac with the hardware of their choice. Initially EyeTV will support Plextor ConvertX PVR PX-TV402U-NA and ConvertX PVR PX-TV402U (PAL) and Cinergy T” (DTT), two popular PC peripherals. Elgato will mount an aggressive development schedule allowing EyeTV to run on as many devices as possible, giving the consumer as much choice as possible. EyeTV will be available for US$ 79,00 on www.elgato.com “It will be possible to buy an EyeTV software license for hardware like the Plextor/ConvertX PVR and TerraTec Cinergy T” to start, with a lot more hardware compatibility to follow”, said Elgato CEO, Freddie Geier. “Our strategy is to offer consumers as much choice as possible. We’re letting people pick the hardware options they want so they can experience TV on their Macs in a very personal way”. The appeal of digital television recording is obvious. People don’t want to organize their lives around network programming schedules. EyeTV’s optional Electronic Program Guide frees people record and edit the programs they want, and even to program EyeTV remotely via the Internet. And recorded shows can be conveniently exported to other formats such as H.264, transferred to mobile devices like Sony PlayStation Portable, or sent to iTunes as an AAC file. With EyeTV "broadcasts" become "custom-casts", and consumers can determine how they will view and record any given television program. |
