Hauppauge Digital has released a twin tuner upgrade package for Windows Media Center 2005.

The Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-500MCE bundle includes two TV tuners on a single PCI card, a Media Center remote control and two "IR blasters" to control external equipment such as satellite receivers.

Available this month at £129.99 inc VAT, the PVR-500MCE, will appeal to PC owners who need to upgrade to Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 without buying a new PC.

The twin tuners allow owners to watch one TV programme whilst recording another, or record two programmes at the same time. The "IR Blasters" allow the PVR-500 to be linked to record from external set top boxes, such as satellite receivers. The IR blaster acts as a remote control for the set-top box, changing the channel or switching on the box before recording from it.

"There is demand for an upgrade package for experienced PC owners to move to Windows XP Media Center Edition," commented Yehia Oweiss, Managing Director of Hauppauge Digital. "This is the first upgrade bundle to include a twin tuner card and a Media Center remote control. An XP upgrade is all that needs to be added."

Powerful hardware
The PVR-500 hardware includes two complete TV tuners each with its own hardware MPEG encoder to ensure the best quality TV pictures. The MPEG encoders convert the TV picture into MPEG-2 whilst still on the card, ensuring minimal load on the PC and avoiding dropped frames.

System Requirements:
* Pentium IV processor 1.2GHz or faster for TV pause with full screen playback
* WindowsXP Media Center Edition 2005, WindowsXP Home or WindowsXP Professional
* Free PCI slot
* Sound card
* VGA card (PCI or AGP) with Media Center 2005 certified driver
* DVD decoder certified for use with Media Center 2005

Drivers for the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-500-MCE range are Microsoft WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Lab) certified.
