The DVD Copy Control Association, a body which attempts to enforce anti-copyright law regarding DVD-ripping, is sueing Kaleidescape, makers of a high-capacity movie server.

It maintains that the Kaleidescape Movie Server, a device which allows consumers to store up to 500 DVDs on a high-capacity PVR, is illegally copying DVDs. This is a claim that the manufacturer vigorously denies, stating that they have consulted widely in the industry, including with the CCA and that the device is working within the terms of the license granted.

This lawsuit will be watched closely by Microsoft, who are keen to introduce a similar technology to Windows XP Media Center Edition.
